Welcome to the DIVERSify project’s Toolbox for Policy Makers!
We have consulted the following strategies, policies and position papers to identify a range of policy targets that intercropping can contribute towards:
- Sustainable Development Goals (12, 13 and 15 in particular)
- The EU Farm 2 Fork and CAP, and the UK Agriculture Act 2020 and ELM
- EU Biodiversity Strategy and associated national laws/proposals e.g. UK Environment Bill
- EU Climate Adaptation Strategy/UK Climate Change Act 2008
- EU Protein Plan
- Promoting healthy and sustainable diets in the EU initiative and the UK National Food Strategy
The toolbox is designed for use by:
– Policy makers
– Member state national representatives
– Campaign groups and advocates
– Advisers
– Farmers’ Associations
…How can intercropping contribute towards…
We have written a more detailed Policy guide on plant teams for intercropping which provides an overview of the gaps and opportunities in the multiple benefits of intercropping, and the policy and advisory environments necessary to bring forward intercropping as a mainstream activity in arable food and fodder production. ReMIX’s Policy Brief Intercropping – Redesigned cropping strategies for food production and environmental services also gives a good overview of the links to EU policy ambitions and recommended enablers.
